ugh, dammit lafermedavid, why did you have to bring back that red truck?! i had just quit havin nightmears bout that pore dent!!! feel sorry for any future vehicles dude plans to torture like that
Sorry, I forgot there were two Type 9 mirrors. I've only run across brackets that interchange where I'm at. It must have been a regional thing. I honestly have never seen Type 9s with curved brackets.
I have them on my truck. I don't like them that well because the mounting bracket angles up , and then I have to adjust the mirrors at an angle compared to the mounting bracket. I think they kind of look funny with the outer corner of the "triangle" angling up from the rest of the truck instead of being perfectly horizontal like I've seen on most other style mirrors.
That may be true, but it's a lot easier to see with the type 9 mirrors than the standard mirrors. Once you get them adjusted properly, you're good to go.

Genuine Ford type 9's: The mirror arm is designed so the mirror head sits level, the arm does not angle up.
Type 9's are Swing-Lok mirrors, push them forward, then when pulled back, will lock into position.
I looked at your album pictures: The mirrors on your truck are not type 9's. They're aftermarket, sorta resemble type 8's.
EDIT: After closer inspection, the mirrors are genuine Ford type 8: D5TZ-17696-A introduced in 1975, standard equipment on Camper/Trailer Specials, optional on others.

Aftermarket mirrors resemble type 9's but are not Swing-Loks. When installed on these trucks, the bracket angles up, the mirror head sits catty-wampus.
Well that answers that question, now I know they aren't the original Ford mirrors that came with the doors that I got from the JY.

I took another look, these are genuine Ford type 8 = D5TZ-17696-A/ You can change the position of the mirror head (bring it in closer) by flipping it over, then swinging its goose necked arm around.
Very disrespectful to say the least. ND is a very respected member of this forum for good reason.
HA! No disrespect meant, but quite frankly I think he is kinda annoying. He runs on about things that no one even said anything about and usually it has nothing to do with the topic. Although he is very helpful!
And ND you said you have 40+ years of experience. How many years have been hands on experience with a plasma cutter and a welder?
All in all no disrespect to ND, but sometimes people just need to know how the other half lives.
Sorry for the Rant and Hijack!
Where will y'all find any NOS (New Old Stock) D4TZ-17696-A Low Mount Swing-Lok Mirror Kits?
Obsolete, no Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
Within the last couple of days, an FTE member (not I) bought all 64 from an ebay seller that was offering them for $30.00 each. A roaring bargain, considering that the last MSRP was $98.00, dealer cost was $65.33.
There are 18D6TZ-17696-A Low Mount Swing-Lok Mirror Kits available NOS ~ Last MSRP: $58.33, dealer cost: $35.00.
D4TZ-17723-A mirror head (came with the mirror kit or was available by itself ~ last MSRP: $43.80/dealer cost: $26.28) is the same for both the D4TZ & D6TZ mirrors. 4 available NOS
I am looking to do the same conversion to my 76 f150. Just to clarify, I want the D4TZ or the D6TZ?
Above you list there are 18 kits but I don't see a link. And if there is no link what is the members name here so I can contact him and he can sell them to me at a profit. BTW I was looking at/watching those mirrors on Ebay and then......DOH! You snooze you lose.

There is no link as I have to type the sources that have the 18 D6TZ mirrors individually from the Ford Dealer Parts Locator System (13) and PartsVoice.com (5).
18 mirrors from 14 sources, too damn many to type. You tell me where you live, I'll type the sources that are closest.
I'm not saying who the FTE member is that bought all the D4TZ the mirrors that were listed on ebay. He's a member of this forum, will chime in if he wants to.
He mentioned to me that he has 6 different trucks/Bronco's that use these mirrors, has friends that have like vehicles, so who knows if he plans to sell them or not.
There were a couple NOS Ford units that just popped on eBay, so I bought 'em. I probably could have saved a few bucks with buying the LMC imports but this was the first purchase for my new baby so I figured go big... :-)
Thank you to Mr. NumberDummy for providing us with the p/n (D4TZ-17696-A)

I couldn't disagree more!
Number Dummy is an incredibly valuable resource and we are da*n lucky to have him. He very generously donates his time to look up part numbers for folks who need help.
I consider myself very fortunate to have the benefit of his experience, knowledge and wisdom.
I've only been on the forum a short while but its easy to spot the TOP contributors and Bill's experience, shared information and time he freely gives is greatly appreciated!
I got notice that my mirrors shipped and are on their way!
