The reason im asking this is cause ive always wanted to convert a longbed into a shortbed, cause my cousin has a, I think its its a 77 ford f-150 longbed and he said a while back that he would just give it to me if I wanted it. I dont really like the look of a longbed and plus ive always wanted to do a conversion like this.
Heres my idea, of course get all the measurements before I go away cutting, then use flat steel on the inside of the frame and on the outside of the frame then weld up where I cutted it, then I was thinking boxing in the frame like 2 feet to where I cut it so it will be stronger.
The question is how do you go about getting measurements with the bed off and figure out how to keep the factory space between the cab and the front of the bed?
Throw in any other suggestions guys, I will appreciate your answers.
Hope my question makes sense to some of ya'll.
thanks
I'd measure a truck similar to yours with a short wheel base. You might go to a junkyard and find a truck with the bed already removed(good to get the driveshaft while your there!) Use the search function too.....I read a post where the guy did what you're considering. Good luck! -Vince
