There's a reason 4wd carries a premium in Canada eh! We need it all the time with driving to our igloos and such.
But seriously yes it's obviously in high demand in your area to have 4wd. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
You have a few X's for sale out your way but in ontario it's like a black hole, and everything I can find is badly rusted.
Will you use the 4WD if you get it? I'm sure you know, but just so that there are no misunderstandings you do know that these trucks are all rear wheel driven unless switched into 4WD, right? You can't use 4WD if you will see dry pavement because the driveline will bind; this means that patches of snow on an otherwise dry road will still require RWD.
I like the advantage of a solid front axle, as it has less bushings that can wear out. I also like the fact that the camber angle is fixed as opposed to varying with the position of the front suspension like the Twin I-Beam setup is. But there is more to break on the whole, as you have a front driveline that has proven to require some service as it ages, and none of these trucks are new anymore.
So my suggestion is to buy a 4x4 unless you think you will absolutely never need it. Because you live up north I'd go for the four wheel drive unless you plan on parking for the winter.
I'm going to be importing, I've found nothing locally worth buying. I want to spend about 18-20K. found a couple on ebay but I'm a little worried about buying a car without looking at it first.
That money would get you a NICE low mileage diesel 4x4 down here in Florida!
just walmart cheapys ($20) wired to a relay(ignition hot) and switch. i plan on replacing them with some LED flood lights here soon since those have been on a year and are rusting and one has a cracked lens.
