Just want to say hi again, have a thread on windows now going on, probably best to keep all future questions here as not to confuse everyone on my project.
Here's what I just picked up, was looking to restore one, but came across a great deal on this truck and just couldn't pass it up, got a HUGE head start.
New paint, Chevy caprice or so I'm told chassis, power brakes and steering, chevy [don't shoot me] 305 small block and mild cam, new steel front fenders, new wider rear fiberglass, new steel running boards, new bed, tailgate and wood bed kit, new fuel cell under bed, new tires and rims, frame off, new bolts, wiring kit and rear window.
Future plans for now are, windows, motor work, heater and A/C and interior.
That is indeed a beautiful truck, hard to beat in red, mind you, red is just about my favourite colour for anything, and I love 56's. (and 53-55's and Mustangs and highboy 29 Model A hot rod roadsters and closed cab pickups and.................

And Ute's? I love the old Ute's. Don't ya just love Ute's? Ya prolly see lots of them down under ehh?
Yes Arctic we have some tough utes, I spent some time looking to buy a nice ute before I had my American holiday and bought my 56 there. Utes have a great following in Oz, with some beasts put out by Ford and Holden (Aust GM) Many are done up very well with very potent engines, paint and wheels, as no doubt, are many of your El Camino's, Ranchero's etc, which would be closest to our utes, though ours are generally somewhat smaller.
The Holden Commodore ute was at one stage supposed to go to the US as the Pontiac G8 ST. Much the same base as the Commodore Monaro that was there for a while I believe as the Pontiac GTO?, and the Pontiac G8 four door sedan.
Been awhile, been busy, one piece glass kit in doors done, new lock hardware and strikers, went with manual, not power.
Doing interior myself, sent seats out to be done only, same vinyl.
New carb, manifold. distributor and wires.
New ceramic chrome hooker headers on order.
Actually little bit of a pain getting it to lie flat from firewall down due to all the curves, still playing with it there, also thick padding under it.
Cut away some of the padding where it was bunching up to help, don't want to glue it down.
Using industrial strength Velcro to hold up where needed, used this on all the panels as well, no clips or screws.
