wiper delay

OK, I know this was talked about before BUTTTTT, this is a question for those "ALL KNOWING" or just those that have had a few beers and have an answer.

I have the two speed wiper
-From the switch - orange goes to hot.
-motor is grounded by the frame.
-From the switch to motor, blue, black, red, white wires.

SO, can an after market delay switch be spliced into one of these wires or can the switch itself be replaced with a later model switch that will look exactly the the factory one that is in the 65'-66'. ???
I also want the wiper/washer part of the new switch.
AND,,, please give exact wire installation mod with a new switch if its replaced by that later model switch. I really don't wish to guess.
Thanks

Rider, I have done this thing. Sounds like a delay switch is what you need. I can not say on the aftermarket side, but about any Ford produced switch car, truck, van, will work. Some slide, some rotate. Yarding is a fun day off thing to do, I suggest rather than buying aftermarket, go yarding find one that you like the appearance of and pull it. You can start looking at the 78 Lariats and go to the 90s. Mr. Wilson may make a list of many other models that they could be available in, but pretty much top end vehicles are the only ones with them in the late 70s & 80s.

You need to pull the switch, the control box, & ground wire. It is all plug & play, unplug yours, plug the new one in, connect the ground and it should work. To be safe I'd locate a backup in case the first doesn't work. If the current switch works the replacement should also.

1973 was the first year intermittant (delay) wipers were available for F100/350's (as an option).

If the wiper switch **** can be freely turned to the LEFT, intermittant wipers are present. The **** has a spring loaded clip that retains it to the switch.

Insert small blade screwdriver, trip clip, pull **** off. The intermittant wiper governor is a black plastic box, located behind the dash on the firewall adjacent to the fuse box.

NOTE: If Speed Control is present, its black plastic amplifier is also located near the fuse box. Follow the wires, if they go to the wiper motor, you've found the correct part.

Fritz, I still have the two house guests. Don passed on the first RAV4, bought another. I've driven over 500 miles since Friday, hauling their butts around LA, Orange, San Berdoo & Riverside counties.

Today we're going yarding, tomorrow both are leaving.

HMMMMM. 500 miles X (gals of fuel) X (cost per Gal) =
I'm assuming you took your rolling gas station... :O)
AND of course they paid for the fuel.......

Yeah, the one I have works great but there are those days you really need the delay. I'm assuming it will just plug into the back of the switch I have on mine or do the wires need to be cut...?

Uh huh...
Only after I filled up the 2nd time. First was $90.00, before I picked up Don at LAX, 2nd was $96.45.

Do you think either has volunteered to pay for anything? Of course not! Free food/drink/lodging/gas/chauffering their butts around.

Only after I b!tched did Don fork over a C-note.

Intermittant wipers will not work with original 1961/66 switches. You need an intermittant wiper switch.

Why didn't Don drive the 98 Escort he is trying to sell me?

I used to make it from Neah Bay (Cape Flattery) to LA in about 18 hours in the early 70's.

Pick up I-5 in Seattle and just put the hammer down.

Two day 1100 mile drive from Seattle to LA LA Land, fly here in a coupla hours. Would you drive a '98 Escort that far?

Hell, I wouldn't drive one 10 feet. Timing belt snaps, valves hit head, now you're stranded along I-5 facing a mucho expensive repair on a pile that's only worth a few bucks to begin with.

T'was nice to be young and foolish, wasn't it? Try doin' that today!

Don flew into LAX from Sea-Tac. Neah Bay is a looong way from anywhere.

You drive there from Sequim or whatever, then you have to turn around and drive the same road back. Been there, done that.

Lotta nice green trees to look at on that road, but as Gov Reagan once said: "When you've seen one (redwood) tree, you've seen them all!"

btw Tricky, it's only a 5 hour flight from Anchorage to LAX.

Ya but it's a 3.5 hour flight from KTN To ANG on the milk run. But can be half the price from ANG out than from KTN. Just no competition there.
than $160 just to get off this rock to KTN to start. And to H--l with the boat ride to Sea-Tac. Never again unless I bring up the Escort with me. But just prolly barge it. Cheaper in the long run. Is Don still there yet?
I am waiting for him to get home so I can deal with him on the car. Or Not. I am hoping to be able to sell it in the spring and maybe make a few bucks. Down South Iron sells good up here. Used to make a fair income doing that years ago.

Don's original plan was to buy the RAV4 in San Clemente, but he passed, as it was an overpriced pile of crap. Then he found another in Upland, we drove there on Monday and looked at it, but dealer was closed.

I told Don I wasn't driving there again, so if he wanted to buy it, better find some other way to get there, which he did.

I tore a hamstring muscle several weeks ago. Sittin' on the oversized tubs hard leather seat for miles and miles and miles is a pain in the ***!

Thanks Bill. I do hope this Escort is as good a car as Don said it is. With 130K on the clock I wonder. It needs paint and who knows what else. Need to ask if the timing belt has been replaced as yet. I just hope he aint an ex used car dealer. I just got this one chance to get a rig that I hope I don't have to pour money into to keep it going for a bit. Just ordered $400 in parts for my Yamaha 4X4 after the kids tore it up. And they wrecked the Ranger I spent a small fortune rebuilding this summer. It's time I got a deal for a change. Ya right. We shall see.

So true. Who said. "When a child is born it should be placed in a barrel and fed through the bung hole. Than when they become a teenager plug the bung hole"?

Hint 1) He was a famous author around the turn of the century I think. He is quoted in our everyday language to this day.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain. Name came from the days he worked on a Mississippi steamboat.

"How do you like children, Mr. Fields?" "Parboiled."

"I like children, girl children, between the ages of 18 and 20." -W. C. Fields

I presumed that you have upgraded to a newer 2 spd switch. Everything is plug & play, no cutting. If you have not upgraded the motor, you will need to swap the arm with the original to make it park in the right place.
