Hi everyone, newbie here.
Lots of good info, been searching for days on here and internet, So now totally confused.
Finally got a deal on my fist 56 f100, new paint, I want to install one piece electric windows in the doors, have no usable hardware, so need all new everything, a kit that comes with everything needed.
I'm sure everyone has has an opinion, not looking for cheap, but don't want to get ripped off either.
Also will need door opening hardware and handles, old ones totally stripped, have already installed outside handles and new hardware that work fine.
To save money, a lot of people take electric windows and door locks off of modern cars and adapt them onto their trucks. Takes some extra effort, but worth the trouble in my humble opinion. Jag
I've done alot of research for the one piece windows and either power or roll up, as I couldn't initially make up my mind.
Midfifties has a complete kit with window regulators and power motor/switches etc. Also John Carpenter's site has a full kit with either "std" switches, or the fancy switch that uses the factory window roller handle connected to a switch. Pretty pricey, but very nice "cool" factor
In the end I decided to keep my vent windows because I dont/wont have any AC plans, but I love the look of the one piece windows... and while you're in there, it makes sense to knock out the power install too! Good luck.

Ha, welcome to my world, can't even make up mind on tinted or not, rear window has smoked already in, going with tan[camel] interior in it's future, so think clear would be best, cleaner look IMHO.
With all the different kits out there, might just put new regulators in and call it a day, seems easiest, lived without power windows in my daily driver Silverado for years, never really bothered me.
Truck came with new smoked glass, vent and larger pieces, but all vent hardware is shot and like the look of one piece.
That's funny, I am debating that as well... I went with a clear set as well. I figure if I want it tinted later, I can have it done. I didn't want to order a tinted set and then it not be tinted enough, or too much. Call me a control freak, but I am particular about certain things.
I're you're not going to do an AC install, I would recommend keeping the vent windows as well. That seemed to be a common theme with other guys' builds, and the reasoning seems sound to me. I like the "character" these trucks have, and part of that is the vent windows and manual side windows. But there's a line... and manual steering and manual brakes aren't as "charming" as manual windows!
After new carb and manifold, A/C is going in, another project, should post a new thread with photos of what I have so far, still needs interior, heater, wipers, windows are my first priority.
Great looking truck! I am always debating between one piece glass or vent windows, but think I will go vent windows as well since no a/c is in my future. I'm sure a mid fifty kit would hook you right up.
