Transmission Question

Guys,
I was looking at the tow ratings for my truck (01 SCAB, 3:55, auto, 4.6l, 4x4) and I noticed that going from the 4.6 to the 5.4 bumps the tow rating from 6600 to 8000. Is that strictly a matter of engine specs or are there other differences? Are the auto transmissions the same?

The trans is the same, but has a different torque converter. Also the 5.4L has much more torque.
