You do not want the engine colder. all motors have an optimum operating temp. The 6.9 and 7.3 have an 185 degree thermostat and run around 185-200.

Why do you want it colder?

Not a colder thermostat I was just online looking at a new one and it shows that there is a lower for the lower radiator hose so I was just checking because according to my temp gauge its way over what it should be

no. only one t-stat, and it is in the top of the engine. don't rely on the dash gauge, they are not very accurate.

Kinda figured I went back and looked to make sure and they do make one for the lower but on the gauge it reads around m to a in the normal sometimes the far tip of A almost to the L so that's the only reason im concerned

Get an ifrared temp gun and check it, or just go ahead and get an aftermarket gauge if you are worried about it. Like TJC said, stock gauges are known to be inaccurate.

Actually, first things first, did you check your coolant level?

If you do replace your tstat ONLY USE MOTORCRAFT. The aftermarket ones do not flow as much

Bash: yes i check it every day. its always a little low but only takes less than a quart to fill it back up. also good idea on the threm gun. Whale: im thinking thats what it could be is that i need a new therm again just because the first time i replaced it was in my old motor and when i did replace it it generally stayed around the R to the M and now it just goes up and yes it was an aftermarket therm so i think it may need replacing again just got to get the money to do that and my ip and glow plugs too
