caburetor spacers

hello
i have a 390 that is mildly built... i could go into detail about the aftermarket parts but im not sure if that would help much. the problem is that the linkage from the petal the throttle is rubbing against a plate on the manifold that holds the return spring. I have a 1inch spacer already, if i removed it the problem would only get worse. Adding another spacer would fix the problem, but i know it messes with stuff a bit. What do you guys think? i have a 600cfm holley and a 390 streetmaster intake.... how much would adding a spacer affect things such as mpg, hp, and torque?

Why not just bend the bracket over to the side a little bit so it clears?

well i'd have to bend it a good inch, wasnt sure if that was a better option than adding a spacer

Usually when you increase the intake runners it increases the torque, IMO go for it. You can also get a cable throttle and junk all the messy linkage.

My '70 has a throttle pedal/cable assembly from a '79. It was a bolt in. It has a 460 with a 4 barrel. They do make aftermarket cable kick downs but you probably could get a stock kick down from a 'yard.

I agree- especially with increasing the runner height....the taller the better in terms of throttle response & fuel/air atomization at lower rpms!!!!!

I have a 1 inch ported spacer, i think i will go with another 1inch but instead an open spacer to increase the height of the intake manifold. what do you guys think? should i just go with a straight 2 inch ported? also, anyone have any idea what size threads the 390 street master intake has for the carb studs? i will need to buy taller ones to fit another inch of space.

to late, you guys didnt answer fast enough! ordered a 1inch open alluminum spacer for 10 bucks off ebay! with two gaskets and studs, cannot beat that deal. however i have to buy taller studs, but they are cheap. Also on its way are my new plug wires, cap, and rotor hoping to see some performance upgrades after all the parts are in. Does anyone recommend getting spark plug wire heat protectors? my exhaust does get hot, but how much does the heat really harm the wires?

I believe the studs are 5/16-24.

those kits normally come with studs and bolts , the Fe engines really don't need plug wire heat shields , just watch how you route the wires and zip tie them away from the headers .
