can i do the 05 front clip and still use my 04 bumper?

Yes, You can cut the header panel to make the head lights fit. You can cut the 05 grill to fit around the 04 bumper. I would just change the header panel headlights grill and bumper will be quicker and look better.

You could even go so far as to mod your stock bumper to fit the 05 grille like this.

I was planning on doing the header panel with the lights and grille, but would rather wait on the bumper. So would that be an issue with the grille?

The header panel will hit the bumper unless you add some spacers behind the bumper to move it outward.
