Hello,
Thanks for all the help regarding my fuel tank. I tried the tank cleaner to no avail. It cleaned the bottom but not the sides. So I decided to just look into buying a new tank. That being said, I'm looking to match the paint of the truck. All I know is it's black jade Metallic (I think there's a C after the Met. but not sure as paint dripped down the sides...) 5050A (1969 ford) originally it was made by dupont and is an acrylic enamel. I want to find a place that sells custom spray paint that will be nearly identical to this color.
The gas tank of course will be behind the seat so it's not critical that it look 100% perfect but I would like to make it look nice and match the color as close as possible. Anyone have any ideas on some retailers that may offer something similar? IF I had the resources I'd just have someone paint it but I'm not interested in paying 100's of dollars to paint a gas tank..... (not sure if any of you have gone this route before or not any advice would help.
thanks

DOTZ-9002-A (replcaed C1TZ-9002-K) .. In-Cab Fuel Tank -19 1/2 gallons / Reproduced by Blue Oval Truck Parts-Anaheim CA
This tank was factory installed in 1970/72 F100/750's and was the FoMoCo Service Part Replacement for the 1961/69 F100/800 in-cab 18 gallon fuel tank.
My auto body paint supply shop can make up any color spray bomb so long as they can get the right paint code. Its $29.00 for base coat and $10 for clear. Check with your nearest supply house - it will save the shipping. I have painted gas tanks in the past and the same rules apply as to painting anything... its all in the prep...
