Hasn't there been someone on here that converted a 2wd to 4wd? I saw this truck for sale. It has 180k and 10k ford HD transimission in it. It has taken a hard lick. To convert, is it an unbolt to change the front end or is it welded in place?
I would also take a close look at the 4x4. Expect transfer case damage as that axle is pushed way back. At minimum providing there's no axle damage. The list includes, new leaf springs, shackles, u bolts.. The list goes on. Personally I would be leery of a truck in that bad of a wreck.
He started off with a crazy high price. Told him he really did not have much to work with. ..Anyway, I too was thinking it was beat up too much for making the swap. I was scared of it so I really have not talked realistic price on it with him other than telling him that was way too high. When he posted the original ad, it only showed the front of the truck but I could see that the front wheel was off in that and then he sent me the rest of the pictures.
I may buy the door panels out of it as I like the ones with the pockets in them and mine does not have that.
To the original question, Should someone find a 4x4 in good shape, could you unbolt the 2wd components and swap/bolt up the 4x4 components or is there more to it? Its been a long time since I worked on the year model 4x4 trucks that we have and I cannot remember how if it is bolted together or welded in place.
