I have a question about swapping disc brakes on a 1969 f-100.
I have a complete 1980 f-100, kin pin style disc brake front end. All the write ups i have read does not list the 1980 as a doner, i checked on rock auto catalog and the kin pin kits are a different # to the 1979 version. My understanding was 1980 was a change over year and ford just used up the remaining supply of arms/spindals, then went with ball joint style? Is there any truth to this? thanks Harry
'just looked on Rock Auto regarding your question. Kingpins are listed for both trucks and classified under the Steering category but under different PNs.
For whatever reason, ball joints are also listed but classified under the Suspension category. My assumption that they are referring to 4WD applications.
I was under the impresion that only 73-79 were compatable. I used 78 donor for my set up and all bolted right in no problems.
Nothing from 1980 and later will work. Ford changed the entire truck in 1980, the first major change since 1965.
And: Ford advertised 1980/83 F100's as a Light Truck. Have different disc brakes, springs and shocks than like F150's.
Some have Swiss Cheese frames, 5 lug 4.50" bolt circle wheels, 10" x 2 1/2" rear brakes, unique to these F100's only.
No Super Cabs or 4WD were available. 300 I-6 was standard equipment, largest available V8 was the 302 2V. Anemic 255 2V and gawd awful 3.8L V6 were also available 1982/83.
