Burning antifreeze?
Lately I've noticed the expansion tank for my cooling system (89,ranger 2.9) , is low. However it happens over a long time (months). It will only become noticable after driving a large number of miles. I also get a white smoke out of my tailpipe, no matter how hot or cold the air is, and it is very noticable. I also fail my emissions tests in NJ. My NOx reading are double the standard.
I was wondering if it was possible to have a small leak in the head gasket, that would leak antifreeze into the combustion chambers? I guess that would explain white smoke.
I had the cooling system flushed and new hoses put on a few months ago. I have never found antifreeze on my driveway.
the truck isn't burning oil either.( and wouldn't that be blue smoke?)
I need to fix this to pass inspection, Help!
Of course there is always a possibility that it is just a head gasket. If no obvious cracks are present, do have the heads looked at and refreshed. There is also an aftermarket company that sells a stronger designed haed. The name escapes me at this time but it had something to do with "World" in the companies name I believe. If you interested I'll try to locate it for you.
