Did this start after the first change of plugs? If so double check the firing order.
And no don't gap the new plugs to.074 stay at 0.054
firing order is good..yes it was the first change of plugs, and i used autolite then change to motorcraft..any possibilitiy something to do with changing fuel filter vacunm or compression..no check engine light no codes,
Do you still have wires or is it COP's? If it is the COP style check all of the electrical plugs and make sure they are seated firmly. You mat also have a faulty winding in one of the COP's, but it's not bad enough to set the code. There's two known ways to find this problem; the first is to have a real time reader hooked up while operating the truck, the other is to buy one new COP and use it to rotate through the order until the problem fixes (downfall to option two is if you have more than one bad).
Can you clarify "runs like crap"
Rough at idle, higher rpm or both?
Hard miss or random?
Did you scan the truck for pending codes?
I think something happened during the plug change focus on that.
Did you run the truck between the plug and fuel filter change?
There was a thread here a while ago on a 4.2, the op was positive the firing order was right.
After a number of posts back and forth it turned out he did indeed have the wires mixed up.
I'm not questioning your ability but check again it can happen to the best of us.
What does the vac actually read ? Also, with the coil packs and plug wire ignition, sometimes the metal plug clip inside the boot is too far up in the boot. Even though the boot seems to be all the way on/seated, the metal clip may not snap onto the plug. If not, arcing. The same is also possible if the boot is too far up the wire. The clip snaps on the plug, but the boot is too high, then the spark arcs to the head.
Sounds like something simple though. The engine may run a little bit rough the first couple of times though, because of all the new parts.
Thanks Dave thats what i am hoping..I am going to recheck make sure the wires are correctly connected.. Hoping its because of the new parts.being so old with low mileage..
truck actually runs good unstil u stop or in park but has plenty of get up and go.
i was also thinking vacumn i am gonna recheck all the lines.
yep i did check pcv valve..i am now leaning toward IAC valve since i sprayed throttle body cleaner in it.i have been reading ford does not recommened that it could ruin the Iac valve
makes sense to me because i am experiencing idle problems and the fact it sounds like its sucking air....
