engine idle

Hey guys, I have just gotten a 1988 3/4 ton f250 and on start up it will idle at 800 rpm but will jump to 1900 rpm and repeat then drop down to 800 or so rpms. Its seems to have a mind of its own. After driving 100 or so miles it still does this up and down thing with the rpms. Looked at the throttle linkage and when it jumps up to 1900rpms there is no throttle monement...any ideas where to start looking?? Thanks in advance.....

I suspect the IAC valve. Its located on the side of the throttle body.
