Tire Selection Problem ???

Well I don't have them here yet, but it seems legit. Might have a lead on a new (used) set of 17" wheels too. I will believe it when I see it. I was hoping to do something a little more on the A/T side of the spectrum, but hey, if they want to GIVE me new tires, I will run them! Even if they suck, I will, um.....use them up!

i have a set of the duellers on my jeep and they have taken me places that i thought i would have not made it and so far i have no complaints. on my truck i have a set of the durtac and they have been very good so far with little ware.

I just got a set of Goodyear Wrangler Dura-Tracs for my truck. I've only put maybe a 1000 miles on them, but am impressed thus far. We'll see how they do in the snow. I've read good reviews on them so I went with them.

Ok boys, the tire fiasco came to an abrupt end the other day--bough tbfg's online at discount tire direct (chris) awesome px an free shipng--305/70/16's--but didnt lnow where to ship them do to job/geo chg--then bought a camper to live in--then was forced to buy tires to haul the camper--lol--so bought cooper discover s/t 's 285/70/16's. And rtnd bfg's.
Lesson learned--theres a s/:t load of tires out there and plenty of variables to consider. BUT ONE THG FOR SURE--CONSULT THIS WEBSITE AND SOLICIT THE OPINIONS OF ITS PARTICIPANTS--IT TRULY IS AN EXCELLENT RESOURCE.

I used to have Cooper Discoverer S/T's on my 250. I must have put close to 40,000 miles on those tires. They were on there when I got the truck, and that's what was on the truck when I sold it. Those tires wore like iron. I don't think you'll be disappointed with those tires.

Yeah we had a set of those Cooper S/Ts on the old 1 ton Chevy at the farm where I worked growing up. Those things were some solid tires for sure. They wore really well, weren't too noisy on the road and did surprisingly well off road. That was one of the ones I was seriously considering before this all came about. I am really stoked to see how well these Nittos work out for me. The truck goes into the shop tomorrow for the alignment and tire change. The ones I ended up with were LT285/70R17's. Yeah I had to get get different wheels to run them on, but I ended up finding some nice ones on CL here locally. Got to finish getting them cleaned up this evening so they're ready to go.
Have you guys had much success keeping tires this size balanced with rim weights or do you like the bead packs better (the media that goes inside the tires)? I think I want to have the weights all put on the inside of the rims so I don't have to look at them. After all, so long as it isn't unbearably out of balance, a little vibration isn't going to be that noticeable. Have you seen my truck!? It isn't exactly a Cadillac! LOL.

Nate, I've heard of Dyna Beads being used for antique cars that have tubes and are harder to balance than modern tires. I haven't heard much about them being used in modern tires, but I don't see why you can't use them. It would be nice to not have to worry about rims getting corroded where the wheel weights are. I think you have to put special valve cores in too to keep the stuff from coming out when you check your tire pressure.

I have heard that some guys just pour in about 8oz of BB's too. Not sure I would want to hear that rolling around in there every time I come to a stop though...

You don't have to change the whole valve steam just the valve core.

My current truck has bfg's (305/70-16) on it and I don't really care for them. They look cool but they don't get good traction in the snow.
The truck I had before had toyo's (265/75-16) on it and the were great! Good wear and I was hauling more then as well.
One thing to note is the truck I currently have has a bit more power.... STILL LOVING IT JIM!! Thanks!
