One of the rubber ends on my windshield cowl is worn out and crumbled in my hand. I there somewhere I can purchase replacements or do I have to purchase the whole cowl?
You have to get the whole piece. One for each side and they aren't cheap. Might save a few $ shopping on-line. Some people replace the plastic with full width ABS cowls (also not cheap and require fitting and painting). I read a post once where a guy made new end pieces out of rubber base board molding. They actually looked pretty good but I don't have the link. ...both my ends are dry rotted off now too.
Yep, you must purchase the entire cowl to get those two pieces. I've been running my truck for two years now without them. I dont mind it actually, as the void serves as a nice "hand hold" for when I'm washing the windshield and front of the roof.
Some folks have complained that these aren't perfect (whiners!)... (The originals are rubber and these are a soft plastic.) You can use contact cement to ensure a secure fit (some say these replacements rattle at high speeds). The contact cement will come off if you need to re-do these in 5-6 years. ...I just cleaned the cement off from where I had applied it the extend the life of my originals cowl ends.
I just purchased the end pieces on eBay. Even if they are aftermarket they are more than worth the money and they do the job. No problem so far, good enough for me.
Got mine super fast, have not installed them yet. I'll need to clean the rest of the cowl so it will match. Just so you guys know, the website and ebay are the same guy. Buy from the website and save him some fees.
Hi all, glad you like the parts (cowlends). First I have heard about vibration problem. I think if you go to website or ebay and read and follow installation instructions that should remedy the problem. I have been road testing mine for over a year now and no such problem. And yes, they are more to the "placticy" end of the spectrum. This is intentional because why would they want to make the same part that was so crappy to begin with? I understand the first prototype was identical to oem (rubbery) but they decided to try and make theirs better then original and from the feedback I have seen customers seem to think they have done that. I am just sooo happy that someone finally stepped up and addressed this long standing problem for us 04-08 F150 owners!
