I am about to pull the trigger on ether one of these trucks. Just wanted some direction to whats a better deal.
First is a 1992 f150 ext cab 4x4 with a 302 and auto trans. basically rust free southern truck. Price is $3000.
Next is a 1982 F250 ext cab with a 400 and a c6 trans 2wd. This one has a little rust but not bad considering its in ohio. This one is $1800 obo
Looking for a truck mainly to pull a camper, a light trailer and general other work things. I have a daily driver so fuel mileage is not to big a deal. Will not get many miles on the truck. Just wondering the good and bad points of these different generations.

 

The 1982 is a great body style, one of the best looking trucks Ford ever made and the F250 400/C6 combo will haul anything. Check the under carriage carefully for rust damage especially the frame and suspension mounts front and rear. The cab and radiator mounts can also rust and cause all sorts of PITA problems. I had an 83 F150 and it went to the JY because of rust on the frame at 218k miles (302/AOD)
The 92 is a good truck but the trans E4OD could be on its last legs unless its been rebuilt after 96. The 2G alternator can catch fire but that can be upgraded to a 3G. Many don't like the 302 but the ones I've had were OK as long as the trailer weight was under 5000k. It can the same rust issues as its older cousin. I have had three trucks in this series (92,94,95) and they were all good but the 94 and 95 had less electrical and hardware problems. The 94 and 95 also broke 200k (300/5 speeds) and are still running.
