Cold Starting with Tuner

When you guys go to start your truck first thing in the morning, do you have your custom tuner in stock mode or in a different tune (economy, tow, etc)?

What I will do is start it in stock and then drive about 2 miles and switch it to my economy tune. At the end of the day when I am done using my truck, I will change it back to the stock tune and then shut it down.

It just sounds a little aggressive if I start the truck up in my economy tune first thing in the morning. (About 45-50 degrees out now in NJ)

Would like to here your guys' opinion.

I just start it and drive in whatever calibration I am using at the time.

All my tunes sound the same at idle, but I do stay in stock until my oil temp comes up to About 150*, which takes awhile. Don't know if its necessary or not, just what I do. Also I couldn't stand stock until I put on that 38r, now its not to bad at all. Sometimes just driving local, I just leave it. It even shifts better than it used to. Its also live tuned now. that might be part of it.

With my DP I will let it warm up before going to 80e because of the higher icp and higher line pressure in the Trans. With my BTS I just start and run in my 100 HP.

When my truck is warm, all of the tunes sound the same.

When I go to start my truck when it's cold first thing in the morning, I'll start it in stock, but if I set it to economy for example, the RPM's will jump a little then come back down. The engine is a also a little louder when cold and on a tune other than stock.

Slight thread hijack - is there such a thing as a cold-start 'tune'? Just wondered - could be an interesting addition to a set of tunes, if someone came up with a valid set of changes that would assist cold starts.

Jody said that it don't matter which tune you start it in, just don't hammer on it till it gets to normal temps.

Good enough for me.

I just didn't want to cause any engine damage by starting it cold in a different tune other than stock.

I would never drive in "ANY" econo tune until the oil temps are at least 150* or more.

My truck was starting funky with newly installed tunes. I kept it on the 40hp setting, where I started and ended my day. I have up to 140hp settings.

Truck would start with the romps, RRRRrrrrrRRRrrrRRRrrrr and I'm in Houston, it's mid to late 60's in ambient temperature in the mornings, nothing drastic by any means.

Taking it out of tunes completely, defaulting to stock, and she cranks right up normally.

My truck doesn't sound funky if I start it in a tune, but sounds normal when started stock.

I think it likes when I start it stock.

Jody limits the trucks power until the truck is up to operating temps with or without an EBV. Should not tell a difference.

(Yes Jody has been doing this for 4 years now)

If you have sent your chip in for updates from the Oct. 2008 updates or ordered a new chip since then, you have the limiters. Unless, you asked to not have them. Can't gaurantee this if you bought the chip used.

Thanks for the confirmation Diane. I ordered the chip new from you guys this year so I assume I should have the latest updates.

Nope.

I dont have a stock tune. I fire her up and drive in the same setting 99.5% of the time, my street hot file.

Same tune I pull my 10k trailer with, same tune I use 95% of the time...
