Just rolled 326,500 miles on my 1999 f-350 powerstroke...
It's all original, no engine upgrades, only upgrade is exhaust from down pipe back.
Anyways I've noticed a pretty good drop in tow power, and fuel mileage so I'm planning on having the top end re-done.....
I'm thinking since I'm in there why not upgrade....
Injectors, turbo, etc...
Was also thinking of adding either a triple dog tuner or banks power pack
I use the truck a lot and pull a lot of trailers, so I don't wanna go over board, but I'm also tired of these high school kids In those ugly dodges....
Sure wouldn't mind filling their truck up with black smoke.....
Any recomondations.... Live in Colorado and plan on having the major stuff done at Stewart Stevinson
the problem i see in your "avenue" is, your gonna have a 326,500 mile bottom end, and a 0 mile topend. Think, somethings' gonna give, in a bad way too. What about investing in an AE, and actuually see whats going on. Could be a sensor or 2, a EBP tube plugged or maybe just need an upgraded hpop.
FWIW clay at riffraff sells complete 7.3 long blocks as well as the best prices on overhaul kits. I would also spend the money on AE. It seems like your in need of a turbo re-build and a transmission overhaul at the minimum, then HPOP and injectors then you should be good to go!
Didn't think about the bottom.... So let me say this.....
I have about $8,000 to put into it
Like I said I dont need a monster but deffinatly want to
"take it up a notch"
if you really want to freshen up the bottom end then i would get one of these..... 7.3l Short Block
3500 for a short block......then i would have your heads ran through by a local head shop with new valve seals and comp 910 valve springs and new pushrods.......that can be done for around 600......now you have 4k left.....i would upgrade the hpop and the put in a new ipr valve and a new icp sensor....with that many miles those 3 items are surely worn....thats another 1000.....3k left.....1500 for injectors and 1500 for a 38r turbo and its all spent but i would still spend another 500 for the bellowed up pipes to make sure youre gettin all the boost you need up there in mountain country......how is your transmission doing? 8k sounds like alot but can be burned through in a second......a good fuel system would help as well.....thats another 1000.......with those upgrades youll notice a significant increase in power and will be happy with the truck all over again.....
If you're going to have the work done for you, I'd suggest you look into the Colorado diesel truck club for local advice. I'd guess they will send you to Rockin S Performance outside of Denver.
Instead of guessing at what you need, let Rocky take a look at it and tell him what you're experiencing, what you would like in regards to the Dodge idiots, and what your budget is. You can do a lot better than the triple dog or banks, and I'm sure they will line you out on what's recommended.

I agree! I view BD as computer hackers, not performance tuners...
I may have messed up...I get hutch mod and harpoon mod mixed up...Someone will be along with a procedure hopefully soon.
The one i am looking for removes the filter in the tank. There is a screen in there that clogs up and causes low power, low fuel psi, and poor economy. Many of the guys here have done it when their truck experience the same issues as you complained about. As was mentioned earlier, do some checking first. There are plenty of threads here on how to check you fuel psi. It will tell you if you need to do the mod or if that is contributing to your low power. I have not had to do it yet but will probably have to do it soon too.
I was right the first time. The hutch mod reconfigures/eliminates the screen in the tank. The harpoon mod makes it to where you can get more fuel in the tank without the pump cutting off.
I don't think it's a fuel pressure issue... My power loss is mostly top end... And when I go wot at a light it black smokes all the way thru first.... (Automatic tranny)
I really noticed the fuel mileage loss this weekend when I was pulling my 1976 f-150,
Usually I can get a solid 15mpg when pulling it but this time I only got 10.2 and I also could barely hold 70 mph without it downshifting on even a small hill...I've pulled it over raton pass 5 times now on the same trailer in the last 5 yrs, all other times I held 65 no prob but this time I couldn't even hold 50.... And for the first time since I bought it in 2004 it got hot....
Also a big reason I was thinking rebuild is because out of the 326,xxx miles, probably 250,000 have been pulling trailers all over Colorado,Wyoming,Nebraska, and Texas...
I have had it way overloaded multiple times with hay and drill stem pipe...
I've always taken good care of it, but I am thinking its just "wearing out"
Do you have a pyro installed to monitor your EGT's? EGT'S are the silent killer of these motors. Especially when towing and overloading your truck. Like others said 8k can be spent very fast. Personally I would get the enhanced long block from clay along with injectors, HPOP and hardware and a 38r turbo. Then focus on the transmission.
