Highly doubtful he took advantage of me. He's a pretty straight shooter and has always treated me very well.

Spent a little time after work cleaning parts to see what exactly I've got to work with. The greasy old camshaft is cleaning up pretty nice...

After the holiday, I'm going to knuckle down and start getting the engine out of the truck and into the garage so the real fun can begin.

the cam is looking good dave.. did you get a roll of the 320 polishing ribbon?.. if not i have almost a full roll hanging on the wall..let me know before you start on the crank... and i also found a rust free radiator support that i didnt use because when the engine was removed instead of tilting the engine (and probably trans) to get it out they just took a sawsall to the upper part of the radiator support.. it has a good lower mount area for the parts to repair yours..i will try to get some pictures later today

Evening RC,
I've been using some 400 & 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper lubed with a shot of WD-40 on the cam. I thought about stopping and looking for something better on the way home but decided just to head for home instead. If I can't find something better by the time I get to the crank I'll let you know.
I made some time to go check out the doors. The driver's side doesn't look too bad from what I can see, but the passenger side has some questionable looking areas on it. I bounced the idea idea of picking up those doors off the wife and got the green light along with a few other reasons having spare doors might be handy. (God I love that woman!)
I'll take the core support too. I think using factory shaped metal and splicing things together will come out better looking in the long run.
I'm not sure if I'm going to have the time this weekend to burn that way, but I will definitely make the time the following weekend if you have a corner you can stack them up.

One step forward, one step back...
I started cleaning the pistons this evening and decided to separate the piston from the rod so I could clean inside the piston. So of course the first c-clip slips of the pliers and ricochets around the garage. I have pretty much given up looking for it and will check with the local NAPA to see if they can save the day. I guess that's what I get for being thorough...
Late edit - I got pretty freaked out about losing the clip until it occurred to me that I am going to have the old 360 rods & pistons from the engine hanging around. I can just swipe one of the clips from them if need be. Now I just need to clearly mark the one needing a clip so I don't forget.

Since its been raining and is rather muddy outside, I've been cleaning parts...
The crankshaft is next, but I'm thinking about soaking it in degreaser for a bit first. Preliminary measurements show that it may be 0.020" under already, but that will have to be confirmed after its cleaned up.

No big leaps of progress this weekend. I've spent most of today cleaning 4 years of clutter from around the truck so I can get to it to start working on it again.
The plan is to have the engine & transmission out of it by Halloween and hopefully I can get the floorboards in before Thanksgiving...
