I just bought a 96 f-250 7.3 diesel from a good friend of mine because he didn't have the money to swap out the clutch it needed. So i buy the truck change the clutch, give all new filters, and oil change. Now i drive for bout a day to see if anything else is wrong with it.
On the second day im driving down the road and it just shuts off, i had to tow it back to the house. It cranks and cranks but it wont' start, i checkd all the fuses, changed the injector sensor next to the valve cover cause it had oil leaking into the plug and still nothing. Any help would very appreciated, driving me nuts.
yeah the wts light comes on, no mods, and i replaced the crank sensor to. Also was just outside messing with it and the ipr wires are fried, the sensor on the High pressure oil pump. was wondering if you could jump those and would run.
just checkd to make sure i was getting power back to the fuel tanks and i am
No, you can't jump those. You can use an injector harness end if you have one, they are the same, or so I read. I just replaed my ipr and wiring pigtail, my wiring was a mess also and probably about to leave me just like what happened to you.
No, you won't hear the pump run. It's not electric until the super duty model, its mechanical in the obs. You can check pressure at the regulator on the side of the fuel bowl. There is a schrader valve there, put a cheapo tire gauge on it if you don't have a fuel pressure gauge. Have someone crank it and see what you have.
Do you have any smoke out the tailpipe while cranking? Those fried ipr wires are probably all your problem.
yeah i know either is not a good thing, problem is id say its already hookd cause the old man i got it off of was already using either. the plugs won't fire it by itself without a lot of cranking and they are all new i replaced them. I haven't tried the block heater though
That is the solenoid on the top of the motor right/middle area. It activates the glow plugs. I think one post is hot all the time, and the other should be hot when the key is on. I'm no electrical expert by any means, but i'm pretty sure that is right. Jumping the two big posts on it will activate the glow plugs if it isn't working. You can hold a jumper on it for 30 seconds, then if it fires you know its bad.
