Tilt steering columns.......

found a factory tilt steering column locally, going to look at it tomorrow along with some other parts for my '79, but the guy says that it doesnt lock into the different positions very good and will change positions with very little pressure.

how hard or is it possible to rebuild them??
are parts interchangeable between the automatic and manual transmission tilt colums??

any help and advice would help.

A tilt column for a manual tranny (floor mounted) is like finding the motherlode. Post a pic if ya got one.

There not that hard to rebuild. Parts between a tilt/non tilt are not interchangeable. Depending on what is broke you are probably going to need parts from another column to fix it. I have a pretty good breakdown of the columns here: 1979 Ford Bronco Steering column repairs pictures, videos, and sounds | SuperMotors.net

Thanx for the link, looks like some good info.

Unfortunately this one is out of an automatic, but it will have to do, definetly cheaper than a shiny chrome new one!!

Common problem caused by worn serrations on locking lever / Tilt wheel operated by pushing turn signal handle forward.

E2TZ-3B661-A (replaced DOAZ-3B661-A) .. Tilt Steering Column Locking Lever / Obsolete

Applications ~ ALL: 1975/91 Econolines / 1978/91 F100/350's & Bronco's.

Applications ~ ALL: 1970/78 FoMoCo Passenger Cars / 1979 FoMoCo Passenger Cars except LTD/Mercury Grand Marquis/Mustang/Capri / 1980 Granada/Monarch/Lincoln Versailles.

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

Ah the F-250, that was sold to a guy in Germany a few months back. It had around a 6" lift on it. The truck would easily clear 38's.

I have the 8"-9" lift coils for my 79 build and planned on 38 inch tires for it, I am getting real curious to see how big its really gonna be, lol!

The steering colum seemed to move and hold positions good, will take it apart and give it a good going through. I Only paid 50 bucks for it and some headliner trim, dont think I did to bad on that deal!

thanx for the help all!!
