Ive got an IH rollback with an injection pump and going down hill foot off throttle itll die and restart also loading a vehicle itll die and restart, any ideas? thx in advance.
Could be a sticky metering valve. Grab a jug of ATF, and fill your fuel filter with it and dump the rest in the fuel tank. Start the truck, let it run for 30 seconds or so and shut it down until morning. That way the ATF has some time to work. The next time you start it, run her hard for a little while to help clear things out.
This is a shop truck where I've just got hired for a truck shop supervisor ,not sure of the smoke issue and we'll try th eATF in the fuelnot sure of the miles, may get a reman pump ,thanks for the info,
Tim
Going down hill with the foot off the pedal, if the engine is above idle speed, the injection pump should shut off the fuel to the engine to slow it down. If RPM's drop too much, or you step on the pedal, fuel turns back on. So I'd agree something is sticking inside or needs adjustment.
What do you mean by dies and restarts when loading? Like it stops firing... but instead of stalling entirely catches on again? Maybe its a weak fuel pump that can do ok when the engine is turning fast, but barely pumps enough under idle.
I'll second the ATF or DieselKleen, etc... in the fuel filter (with a new filter would be best) and see what happens.
