Rear brakes locking.

Guys,

My 94 is back on the road and running great, but I have been reminded of a problem I had before I tore it apart. The brakes are working well, but the rears seem to be doing more of the stopping than the front, so of course the more I use them, the hotter they get, and start to grab. I have replaced everything in the system except the proportioning valve, and the ABS controller. I bench bled the master, and bled the lines in the correct order. I have done some reading, but found no immediate answers. The ABS seems to be working, because they do not stay locked, but they are definitely doing the bulk of the braking. Could it be the proportioning valve? M/C push rod adjustment? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mac.

to start with, pull the brake drums and make sure everything is right. check the adjustment, and check for loose hardware, oil contamination, etc.

how does your pedal feel?

have you proven that your fronts work at all? i was just reading a thread a couple days ago about someone who had a new master cylinder with a plugged port to the fronts.

Well when I bled it I got pressure out of the front calipers, so the M/C must be working right? I have had to brake hard enough a few times that I wouldn't have stopped if I were on back brakes only. Ill jack the back end up and check the adjustment, but I don't want to pull the drums, I had them off about 200 miles ago, and they were fine. Everything back there is new, drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware kits and soft line. The pedal feels pretty good. Not as good as my 93 which is awesome, but good. No sinking feels pretty solid.

Did you get them from Autozone?

Mechanic friend of mine said not to buy brakes from them he put some on a 350 that were just a little bit to big and they were dragging all the time. Sorry I don't have any more details. I don't even know if it was front or rear I'm just throwing it out there so you can consider it.
