Hello folks

My son, who is 12, just took out a "loan" for his first truck. It is a 1955 F-500 with a grain bed, Galion dump in prime shape, and a 239 Y-block. Most of the sheet metal is good. No major dings but some rust-through here and there. We'll work on getting it running and eventually look into getting it tweaked to where it is made of more readily replaceable/repairable parts. I'll post pictures when I get to the real computer.
I'll have plenty of questions. I'll try to talk Dylan into creating a running restoration thread.

That's all for now, I'll be in touch.

Your son is getting a great start! That truck just might be a little big for him.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with the truck! Can't wait to see the pics.

That brings back good memories. My son bought my F2 for $125 when he was 11 years old. He ended up trading it to me for another project, but it was his first real experience at working on old iron!

Welcome to the forum!

Dan

What a great way for your son to learn not only working with his hands but so many other life lessons that many kids never get to learn. And the quality time he will have with you, is priceless. There are a few other father son projects on this site, and they all warm my heart. Congrats, and dont forget the pics.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Here's a tutorial Bob put together: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/67...-pictures.html

That's the plan!
He'll probably be the only kid in the North end of Dallas with one, and, maybe even in all of the DFW metroplex!!

However, his friends' dad (they're twins) is thinkin' that this might be fun for a neighborhood gig. I'll point them here if they get with the program and get an old Ford - or two.

Pictures tonight..

Hmmm..Welcome to the forum!

I am looking for some "read-between-the-lines" message here.
and I am stuck.
So you wanted an F 500 and your wife said no, but then your creative
thoughts...I will tell her that 12 yr old Jimmy wants it! She won't say no to little Jimmy! It would break his heart!
Dude thats slick! I may have to try that! Thanks!
Nice looking truck!
So is your son gonna get another loan to build a shop? Hey he could use the truck to haul the lumber!

Was I that transparent?

Actually, I see it as a manipulative tactic on her part to force me to unload the piles of vacuum tubes and general mass hysteria from the garage. Truthfully, she does have a valid point.. somewhat. I guess it works out for all three of us in the end.
As well, her dad (grandpa) is in on it. Dylan's Uncle restores old Dodge Power Wagons and grandpa can't stand them. So, when Dylan started talking about a Power Wagon, grandpa made the offer to loan on a Ford. Soap operas have nothing on this truck's latest move. We will give it a great home no matter what the drama is behind the collective motivation.

Welcome! Great pics! I think we could all learn something here from Mr. Horvath. I'm thinking my stepsons really would like a 68 Mustang fastback in Highland Green just like Steve McQueen drove in Bullitt. It would be a great project and learning experience for the kids and I could teach them important life lessons like doing burnouts.

That's the plan. Moving it tomorrow about ten miles to a friend's place. Bob the bed by ~2' to get it to fit in the garage (and only -most- of two parking spots). Then a quick make-ready and short trip for an inspection. Title/register, drive! Fix as needed and drive some more. We're keeping the bed and hydraulics but it's too long for our limited facilities. Oh, well. Farm livin' is the life for me. Someday.
