hey guys i am new to this forum i have looked at it a lot first time using it i have a 02 f150 with V8 4.6L windsor motor with 117xxx miles i have codes P0303 misfire cylander 3 and P0316 it has to do with the crank sensor i got the truck about 2 months ago it had just over 11xxx miles so i am thinking i should change the plugs and coils i know its coil on plugs but i am a liitle nervous beavuse i know it has the aluminumheads with 4 threads and i have herd a few horror stories idk if i should bring it and have it done or do it my self i do 99% of work myself i am a boat mechanic and electrican so i am not scared of tools just would hate to strip out the head
Hey there jm, the 316 is just telling you a missfire was detected on startup due to the cylinder that out.
Don't worry about the head threads.
By 02 the head design was changed to take care of this unless some early heads got on at assembly.
Number 3 from the front is right out where you can get at it on the passenger side.
Just do that one first to get the hang of it.
If it fixes the missfire let the rest go until you need to do more again later.
Just expect to have to sometime.
The system will tell you again except when a coil developes shorted turns, then it's a bit more difficult to tell which cylinder is the problem because it shows a different kind of drivability issue and does not set a code.
Good luck.
thank you very much it makes me feel much better to know the problem was fixed with the head lets hope i dont have a early production one im gonna look at the tomorrow but i appricate all the help abd very quick responce
I changed the #3 plug today (just trying to fix the problem before I start doing a tune up) and I cleared the codes took the truck for a drive it was better but not 100% and the codes came back after driving one mile so I'm gonna change the coil next If that is the wrong direction please let me know what the next step should b thanks in advance
