My question is does the way the alternator is wired up have anything to do with the truck not getting spark. old motor that i pulled out ran put mine in and no spark. ground from the frame to the motor and motor to the cab.im not to sure on how to wire up the alternator anyone have a diagram or something.
If you have an ammeter instead of an ALT light, then you'll have a GREEN with RED stripe wire coming from the cab which goes to the 'S' terminal of the voltage regulator. The 'I' terminal of the voltage regulator is unused. The 'F' terminal of the voltage regulator goes directly to the FLD terminal of the alternator. The output stud of the alternator (usually marked A or B+) goes to the battery side of the starter solenoid through a fusible link, which also branches off to the 'A' terminal of the voltage regulator. Some wiring harnesses also connect a ground (GND) stud of the alternator to one of the regulator mounting bolts.
What have you done to verify that the alternator is not working? What are you considering "not working?" How have you narrowed it down to the alternator? The ammeter in the dash is never going to move, even if the alternator is working.
