Okay, I've read through a lot of posts and have a shady idea of what to do. I have a 92 f-250 reg cab, reg bed, the closest I found to my setup is 96 f-250 which I'm pretty sure is the same. If anyone can point me to a really good post on this or something, I know there is a lot in here I just can't find a really good one close to my application. Also why couldn't you just replace the tranny, with one from a 4x4 with a transfer case one it, then just put in the front axel from the same truck you got the tranny form. I read someware of there beeing a problem with.. something. I'm really attached to my truck, it's really sharp looking and I'll be putting up pictures soon.
'92 F-250, White.
The only option it has is cup holders.
It's not THAT simple but it's not hard, there are a lot of odds and ends you need. Basically, you need the front TTB hub to hub. The tech article is based on the F-150, but the F-250 is similar. You can use the tranny you have, but will have to change the tailshaft to accept a transfer case. Get a borg warner 13-56 transfer case, bolt it to the tranny with the new tailshaft. Need the crossmember to support that. Get a rear driveshaft of a truck with the exact same configuration as yours (reg/super cab short/long bed). The hole for the shifter is already there, they silicone in a metal plate to cover it, so punch that out. Make sure you get all the linkage and shifter with the T/C (transfer case). You can do the project in steps, bolt in the TTB inplace of the I-beams and drive it. Then get the tranny-T/C situation set and installed, and drive it. Make sure the front gears are within 1% of the rear. You can either buy a TTB with the same gears, or change the gears in the TTB. Most likely you'll have to change them because TTBs arn't that popular to buy just by itself. Once you have everything set, just install the front driveshaft and your ready to go. I'd replace u-joints, and minor miscellanious things while you have it apart. You can get the parts either from a junk yard, or donor truck. I'd only get the donor if it has everything you need, or just about everything you need. You can always bolt the 4x2 stuff in the donor and re-sell it. Or you can tear down the donor yourself, sell the engine, bed, tailgate, and miscellanous parts and get most of your money back.

With the F250, the 4x4 has leaf springs up front, BUT, I think you can swap in the spring mounts and all if you are willing to drill a few holes, if not, it has been speculated that an F150 front axle will bolt in, and, they can be converted to 8 lug using Chebby parts, maybe even stock F250 LD parts.

Be better off bolting the leaf springs in there and the HD d50 front end off a supercab or HD F-250 (supercabs all had HD front ends). The HD front ends have a dana 50 instead of d44, stronger hubs and brakes, which is better for large tires. I'm not sure if the 4x2 front leafs and the 4x4 front leafs are the same size, but if they arn't, drill new holes in the frame for the spring perches and put some grade 8 bolts on there to hold it in. Thats the conversion in a nutshell.

i did a change over from an f 250 2x4 to a f 350 4x4 piece of cake exept you will need a 4x4 frame for the conversion.the brackets will not bolt up because the front frames on mine are box frames in the front with cutouts for the leaf spring mounts ,this is for strength.if you mount your leafs to a chanell type front end the frame will tear and crackitself to no end.i know this from experince.ps if you change your tailshaft on your trani youll have to take the clutch pack out to get at the c clip in the back of the trani, youll have to buy a rebuld kit to get a new front pump gasket, again from experience.easy way is buy a 4x4 trani and sell your other one to off set the cost.good luck
