Are you judging "all these failures "by a couple posts on a forum?Honestly if the average joe came on ths forum I could see how they would think this truck is garbage.Very very small overall percentage of total trucks on the road have had these failures.Millions out there who arent on this forum loving and driving their truck with no issues.Me included. And I USE my truck pulling trailers ect. Truck is awesome.Sorry, just starting to get sick of all the negativity about these trucks. Nothing against your post because there are several I could have quoted just the same.I had a 7.3 before this one and this truck is heads and tails above my old 7.3.No comparison. My 7.3 only had 98000 miles when I sold it but the truck was starting to rot away.there arent many low mileage 7.3s out there anymore and trying to compare it to a 6.7 is impossible.Completely different animal. The longevity of the 6.7 is still to be proven. You cant judge the longevity of an engine by a handful of failures.I have two close friends with 6.7s who arent on this forum and love their trucks, one who also traded his 7.3 for it with no regrets.
How many miles are on these 6.7s you speak of? Just curious btw.
when did they start using the new head/ glow plug design? any specific build dates?
sorry dont have an exact date. I do know it was aprox early 2012. Im the worst at remeber dates.. needless to say I failed history class. I can say that if you have a plastic lower pan it would have the old style heads.
Yes, it is a heater element in the intake to heat the incoming air charge.
Yes, and it is used in place of glow plugs.
Knowing that the 6.0 and 6.4 heads can crack sometimes, and also considering IH would have spent time and money on a new head design, I'd have to assume there is a reason behind it.
Maybe it's the heat... maybe the hole itself causing a weakness in the structure? who knows..
Back to the 1 sided bank regen... which bank was this failure on?
Regen side?

You have to understand too, that I`m gunshy after being screwed by a 6.0 that I am finally getting rid of the week ( Thank God!).
What can I say? I have been active on this site in the 6.4 and 6.7 forums for a good while now. My 6.7 is/was a seriously fine motor to drive with. Heck, it was absolutely fantastic for 121,800 miles. I had no warning so how could I possibly think otherwise? Only time will tell how I feel about it in the future.
Cheezit, thanks for the info. I'm gonna miss that slick composite oil pan and just using my fingers/hands to do an oil change. It was nice not needing any tools other than my paws.....would I have updated heads and such that folks are talking about? New turbo too? You think I get a new fuel pump too? The number of questions I have is overwhelming and I don't even know who to ask.
I spent last week towing my work trailer with an ecoboost. This week I use an f250 with the 6.2. I'm not real excited about it but it will be interesting.
Very glad to see Ford cover this! I to have the premium care up to 100,000. How did you get coverage to 200,000?
You can have your oil leaking bed plate... I've had my share!
Navistar didn't really get much right... They exceeded head pressure ratings on the powerstrokes, oil coolers that act more like a coolant filter, EGR valves and EGR cooler problems, high pressure oil leaks, HPFP and turbo replacements that require cab removal, oil dilution problems, and list goes on and on!
Navistar got it right....That's why they're currently in big $$$ trouble with the EPA right now with their massive EGR approach that can't meet 2010 emission standards!
Didnt say any of things were right in my post. Those things were wrong, but the 6.0/6.4 are internally stronger motors. A bed plate design is a better design strength wise. I am cheering for this motor. Hope they reconsider some areas of this motor that are extremely undersized. The bottom end is that area.

There is an additional diesel engine care warranty separate from ESP premium care.
The diesel care plus must be purchased before 3yr/36k and covers 21 components.
I think diesel care can be purchased before the 100k engine warranty expires but covers less engine components.

If the 6.4 would have had the 6.7 emissions equipment.... That could have been one hell of a truck.

I dont think so. About any given day i can go to my dealer and see 2 or3 6.4's in the shop cab off and engine getting replaced. Cranks blowed out the bottom or rods hanging thru the side of block.
And as for the ambulances there is always several in the shop or waiting. The techs call it the weakest poc made.
Granted the one i had was just flat out wicked fast. But after seeing this evertime i would go there.no way was i keeping mine.
