I currently drive a 99 F250 SD 4x4, has right at 99k miles. The shocks look to be the original equipment from the factory. I just picked this up a few weeks ago and I took it to my mechanic and he recommended that the shocks be replaced due to the miles and how "original" they look.
So, I am in the market for shocks. This is my first 4wd vehicle and first SD. I have a little bit of a clue for what I need, but don't really understand the differences in the shocks available for my truck.
Is there any "help" section on the different types of shocks out there for these trucks? Could someone shed some light on this for me.
How my truck is used, driven daily on the street, occasional towing of a car trailer. I might do a little off-road driving, not really sure how much, this is my first 4wd vehicle that is capable. My truck has the towing and plow package, if that helps any.
I have heard good things about Rancho, but don't really know what exactly to get.
I put Rancho 9000s in my truck. Better than the worn out ones I had, but face it, a truck is a truck and rides like a truck. The MyRide is so-so - can't really tell the difference in settings but my kids get a kick out of the compressor kicking off. They say, "Your truck just farted, Dad!"
Look at the 5000s if your budget is less.
I expect you'll hear from a number of people that are high on Bilstien, too.
I was looking at the 5000's earlier this evening. They sound like a good all around shock. Before I make a choice, I will wait this out to see what others have to say.
just put 5000's on my 05 SD F250. I like the ride, it's a little better ride than the OEM's, not as harsh and better rebound control. But than the OEM's did have 98K and I can't remember what they were like when new. Time will tell.
My 9000s just arrived today. Putting them on ASAP. I just went through your same dilemma. I was torn between Bilstein 5100s and Ranchos. I went with Ranchos because they are adjustable.
When my 2003 needed new shocks...I replaced the FX4 shocks with Bilstein HD. These are the yellow shock with blue boot. They did a GREAT job...and definitely added to the control of the truck. Next time around...I prob will go with the Bilstein 5100's.
From the little bit of reading I have done on them, sounds like that people really like them and they hold up VERY well. Being that I am not a hardcore off-roader, I will probably go with the Rancho 5000 series. I am liking the "Shock-tober" promotion.
Kinda off-topic, how do I get my thread to read from oldest (top) to newest (bottom)? I was looking through my settings, couldn't find anything to change it.

OK, go to User CP (link on upper left of screen) then find your EDIT OPTIONS link along the left menu of that page. Under THREAD DISPLAY OPTIONS find THREAD DISPLAY MODE and change it to LINEAR - Oldest first.

I have been using the Rancho XL9000 and they work great, easily adjustable. They have since stopped being adjustable. I am probably going to get another set and buy the wireless controller!! anybody have one? impressions?

I've had the MyRide controller installed for three years and it's "ok." Received it free during a Rancho promo.
Controller works 95% of the time. The 5% it doesn't, mashing the buttons in some yet to be determined order will "wake" it up and signal a change to the compressor.
Compressor will kick on about once/twice a week to top off the pressure. Kids love that because they get to say, "Dad - your truck just farted!"
Thanks, wizkid for the link to autoplicity. I will probably be purchasing the Rancho 5000's for mine. I am kinda on a budget.
