i keep seeing this term used regarding the early ford truck. can someone explain exactly what extra cab means? im fairly new to these trucks and just want to learn more. thanks np
I am sure the more knowlegeble will chime in, but I believe they are referring to the 5 star cab. It had upgrades like a driver's door lock (exterior), interior light, dual wipers, and such.
If that's the meaning of your question, dmack91 has it right. On the '51/'52 trucks Ford offered the base level "5 Star" trim level, and also offered the "5 Star Extra" trim level which was like a deluxe option. Here's the chart describing it from the Salesman's Handboook.
Or, if your question is directed at what today might be called a "Super Cab", there have been a number of trucks show up that have had aftermarket "extra" cabs fitted. These, when new, would have been railroad, oil exploration, utility company type trucks. Here's a few pictures of ones that have shown up here. Stu
