has anyone went from a 352 to a 460 in a 65 f100 2 wheel drive, and also went from a 4speed standard to an automatic transmission. If so what is the process, how easy, ect. thanks kevin
You need ford 460 towers and cross bolt mounts and clam shells, or aftermarket mounts. The stick 352 FE mounts will not work.
The only transmission of choice in an automatic is a C-6 with the big block ford pattern. 429,460,351M/400. Or a later AODE with a separate controller and the same big block pattern.
correction if you know how to do it you can take stock fe motor mounts and make them work on a 460 i know because it is a common fix around here and they have held up nicely to red dawgs 420 horses and plenty of abuse its pretty simple requires either a chop saw or a grinder with a cut off wheel and a drill and about 5 minutes of time 460 motor mounts are expensive and fe motor mounts are $15-$25 and they hold up just fine
1973/79 F100/350 460's have R/L brackets (D3TZ-6030-A right / D3TZ-6031-A left) that bolt to engine block.
The rubber insulators (2-D3TZ-6038-A) bolt to these, then to the engine supports (D3TZ-6028-A right / D3TZ-6031-A left).
Passenger Car/Econoline 460's do not use these brackets, their rubber insulators are different than F100/350's. Passenger Car different from Econoline.
D3TZ-6A023-A .. C6 Trans bracket (bolts on, some peeps call this a crossmember) same: 1973/79 F100/350 460 / 1973/76 F100/250 2WD & F350 360/390.
D3TZ-6068-C .. Trans rubber insulator: 1973/79 F100/350 460 only.

Any pics of this? I have a set of L&Ls that will work for my '65, but for those that are interested in the swap without having to chase down mounts that may be rare in their neck of the woods, this could be a god send. This is precisely why I bought the L&Ls from a member here, lack of availability in WI.
i used a cut off wheel to make the cut ....beware rubber gets hot and stinks take your time its not a race..... would be nicer to use band-saw..... use a drill press if you can or if not you can put the motor mount in a vise and carefully drill out the top hole.... either completely enlarge hole on the top bolt hole or just on the side of the hole closest to the motor mount bolt that goes through supports... if you put it up next to the 460 bolt pattern you will see how close it is.... it is barely more than the threads on your bolt it is that close...... any more questions i will be happy to send more advice your way
I didn't put this 460 with a C6 in (my best research / guess so far is that it came out of a 70 Lincoln) but the truck orignally had a 352 three on the tree and now it's an automatic with a floor shifter. Don't know much about this but would like to know if it looks like the work was done right, opinions welcome.
Just my $.02, I wouldn't want to use the "FE" style mounts on the 460. One reason being the 460s from the factory use three bolts into the block on each side of engine. Another reason to use the 73-79 factory stand and mounts is the rubber mount is "trapped" so that if the rubber gives the engine doesn't raise up much.
mine has held up to almost daily hot rodding a 420 hp 460 for a year and hasn't showed any signs of breaking a buddy of mine has an 800+ hp mud truck and he use's stock FE motor mounts too they hold up nicely and they are cheaper and no major work needed to intall just a drill and some hardware to move towers and a cut off wheel/grinder to cut edge off motor mount
is there any body else out there with any other info on the swap, if so could you please leave a post. thanks everyone who has left info abou the swap you all have been of great help. kevin
