I just bought a nice running, well cared for, 2001 Expedition with a 5.4 off a neighbor. I'd like to be able to use it to trailer my Jeep CJ-7 out to Colorado.
I'd like to chip this truck with something simple and adjustable. I'd like to be able to choose normal, towing and performance.
Not trying to make it something it's not, or tear it up. Just want some more power and economy at times.
What is the weight of the Jeep and trailer you are towing? What is your total combined vehicle/trailer weight? You may not have to do anything to it at all. Your towing appears to be rated at 8100 pounds which your Jeep shouldn't even come close. Check the data plate for your axle code and see what gear ratio you have. That will make a difference when towing stuff. With the proper weight distribution hitch, your Expedition shouldn't do bad. Now if you were pulling a 6000+ pound travel trailer, I'd opt for a larger truck. Tried that with my wife's 2007 Expedition EL Limited with the 5.4 and 3.73 gears on flat ground and some small hills. Couldn't keep the engine below 3000 rpm, 5-8 MPG. Not wanting to burn up the wife's vehicle, I just got a 2000 F250 Super Duty CC with the V10 that has a Banks Power Pack system installed. Going to find out next weekend how it pulls my 27.5' Travel Trailer.
That being said, I've run the SCT X3 in my 07 Mustang Convertible V6. They are pretty easy to use and are based off your computer module ID. They cost around $379 without a tune unless you buy it from a place that offers free tunes.
