352 Pipe Flange

Are there supposed to be two exhaust gaskets on the driver side manifold front pipe connection? My front pipe has a doughnut and the manifold has a flange surface. The passenger has the typical doughnut and cup recess manifold to accommodate the shape. A curious set up. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Are the castings of the same era? IIRC, Dentside driver's side sometimes had a thermostatic air valve that had a flat flange at the inlet and a doughnut flange on the outlet. Could it have been replaced?

My 70 bump uses single doughnuts on each side and both manifolds incorporate a recess.

Looks like they made some kind of adapter. I should have mentioned the exhaust past the manifold was custom. the adapter was about 2 1/4 in thick and had a flat surface for the manifold side and a recess for the front pipe side. Weirdest sh#t I've seen. I think they did have a different manifold from stock though. I recently aquired two 390 heads which had exhaust manifolds on them. The driver side was similar to the one I have however, the pass. side had a more horizontal angle compared to my original which faced the ground more. Ah the joys of interchangeable heads through several years. I'll just have to trudge through this as I go.

Well, most every previously owned vehicle is like Bigfoot breaking a mirror while holding Pandora's box flying an Avenger TBF in the Bermuda Triangle.

Interchangeability can be both a bane and a blessing.

1965/67 F100/350 352's have a heat riser valve (C5TZ-9A427-A) between the left exhaust manifold and the inlet pipe. Heat riser valves tended to get stuck open, so some peeps gutted them by removing the flapper valve.

Your 'custom adapter' could be the original heat riser valve that had the flapper removed, holes welded up. Heat riser valve: Two different gaskets, one's a donut, t'other is flat.

Because of the heat riser valve, the 1965/67 F100/350 352 left exhaust manifold (C5TZ-9431-A) is different than the 1968/76 F100/350 360/390 left exhaust manifold (C8TZ-9431-B).

Right exhaust manifold (DOTZ-9430-A replaced C5TZ-9430-A) same: 1965/67 F100/350 352, 1968/76 F100/350 360/390.

FE Passenger Car exhaust manifolds are different from F100/350's, as they have the exhaust collectors in different locations.

Look on the right & left exhaust manifolds for the cast ID numbers, post what they are. 'Custom adapter' may have an ID number cast onto it, will include 9A427.

HIO Silver: Best case scenario: Confused TBF squadron leader flew east past radio range out into the Atlantic till squadron ran of of gas.

Witnesses on a boat said Martin Mariner seaplane sent out to look for missing squadron exploded in mid-air. Mariners were known as "the flying gas tank." It only took one spark: BOOM!

But, what happened to the collier USS Cyclops? An enduring mystery since 1918, as no one knows what happened to it. Calm weather, U-boat records examined after WWI ended showed no involvement.

USS Cyclops' sister ship USS Jupiter converted, became the USN's first aircraft carrier USS Langley (CV-1), known as "The Old Covered Wagon."

My usable passenger side manifold is C8AE-9430A. The damaged "original" passenger manifold is C5TE-940-(then either C or 0). These were obviously different by the angle of the collector. The usable and "original" driver manifold is stamped D2TE9431AA. No markings on the "adapter". Way too pitted. After finding the adapter it makes sense how they go together. It could be part of a heat riser, but there are no obvious mounts for the valve or any indication that there was a valve. As long as it doesn't leak when assembled I'm a happy camper.(the truck is a camper special ). Thanks for your input. Curious to find out some of the origins of my modge podge 352.

ID: C8AE-9430-A is from a 1968/71 Galaxie/LTD 390.

ID: R/S C5TE-94 would be followed by 30 .. as every V8 car/truck and etc right exhaust manifold since 1932 is Ford basic number 9430.

ID: C5TE-9430-C right manifold originally was Ford part number: C5TZ-9430-A which was replaced in 1970 by: DOTZ-9430-A

When dies are worn, letters and numbers take on appearances of something else.

ID: D2TE-9431-AA = Ford part number: C8TZ-9431-B ~ 1968/76 F100/350 360/390.
