fuel issues

ok so here is the deal. i have and drive every day a 1985 f250 6.9 and recently as im driving down the road it will start to spudder and sometimes accelerate for a second or two on its own. then sometimes it just dies, it has 3/4 of a tank and did it when full to the neck. could the fuel pickups be that bad?

What does switching the tanks do? I would try the diesel kleen in the fuel filter trick tonight.

Good luck,

Mac.

Im guessing there is an air intrusion somewhere in either the return lines or the fuel water separator. That explain the acceleration on its own for a second

My 7.3 started doing that a week or so before the lift pump died in the middle of winter.

Mine never died after it was running though.

you'll have to inspect your tank pickup tubes, along with the FSV,and the supply line from FSV to engine/lift pump.look around the metal fuel lines around the clips on the frame.she's sucking up air someplace.

those stock water seperators are prone to leaking from the drain. mine is patched with a piece of hose and a cap.
note that its wise to have some kind of water seperator in the system, so for the long haul it would be best to replace the water seperator or switch to the newer style fuel filter that has it built in
