This morning on my way to work my truck ran just fine as normal. When I got to work I put my truck in reverse to back into my spot and out of no where it started running like s**t almost like a miss. The same thing happens when I put it in first gear as well but runs perfect in drive or even second. The truck is an automatic 4x4.
Fluid level is good and pink, not sure on the miles because it was rebuilt about 3 years ago. I can hear a weird sound from underneath even when in drive but havent tracked it down yet. I also noticed when its in reverse it doesn't bog down right away it may take 30 seconds or so.
My vote is to remove the chip... possibly something jarred it loose and youre having a bad connection. Not knocking the chip at all, just mine hit and missed with the chip and it wasnt fully seated... Plus that way you know the trans tunes dont have anything to do with it.
Taking the chip out didn't do anything. The truck is stalling in reverse almost everytime now. The only I can back up now is to switch the chip to high idle.
Did a google search... stalls in reverse - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com Copy and paste that and see if you can find chaffing on the wires. hopefully just grounding out to the chassis. EDIT: Its the last post on the page...
This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to revise the Service Procedure.
ISSUE:
Some vehicles may stall when the transmission is placed into gear. This may be caused by the transmission fluid filter becoming detached and/or loose.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Follow all the normal diagnostic procedures outlined in the appropriate model/year Service Manual. Repair as required. If all normal diagnostics fail to correct the problem, refer to the following Steps.
1. Remove the transmission fluid pan to determine if the transmission fluid filter has dropped down or is not firmly seated in the pump bore.
2. If the filter has dropped down into the pan, discard the filter assembly and remove the filter seal from the pump bore.
CAUTION : BE CAREFUL NOT TO SCRATCH OR DAMAGE THE PUMP BORE WHEN REMOVING THE SEAL.
NOTE : DO NOT REMOVE THE ORIGINAL FLUID PAN MAGNET FROM THE FLUID PAN OTHER THAN TO CLEAN AND REINSTALL.
3. Install a new Filter and Seal Assembly (F6TZ-7A098-AB: 4X2, F6TZ-7A098-BB: 4X4). Refer to Figure 1.
Got that from another site, but I think you mentioned it...
