Are you sure it's not just a cracked/or worn flexplate? That's relatively common.

You don't actually have a flywheel with an auto. If your crankshaft bearing is that worn, you have more serious issues in my opinion.

How many miles on the truck? Ive never heard of this. It's probably just a cracked flywheel. Find a new mechanic.

If your crank has that much play in it, the crankshaft pulley would look oval when running and there would be a nasty vibration.

Check your flex plate through the inspection cover. It will probably be a little snaggle toothed.

no the flex plate is a month old it has some ground down teeth from the starter not being shimmed even though ford starter shouldn't need shims and the truck has 165xxx miles on it

are the teeth worn halfway the width of them or all the way across? Did u replace the starter at the same time as the flex plate?

Why did you replace flexplate originally? Something is not right but I would really be surprised if its as bad as all that in the original post.

If the teeth were worn on the original starter with the new flex plate, it would damage flexplate.

If the starter is not always disengaging, it will damage flex plate.

If the number of teeth were wrong on the new starter, it could cause damage.

There are million things that can cause it but something is missing out of the information loop. The starter was originally a Ford but is now a Napa. Is there anything else you can think of to add? How is battery voltage when cranking?

Is it a 2 bolt or a 3 bolt starter and are all the bolts back in it? I ran into this one on a cat recently and the guy driving it knew better but was holding that heavy beast in with one bolt.....at the bottom.

We need our trucks to run and nothing is more frustrating when they do not run. I just do not want you to spend your money and be back here again so I am trying to pick you for more information.

i cant get the pictures off my camera but on the flex plate some of the teeth on the engine side are ground off the thickness of a quarter and in other spots they look brand new my previous flex plate broke right where the bolts mount the wheel to the engine it broke the wheel so it was a large disc and a small disc

^^^^^all of the above, and, if your crank had that much play in it you'd be in really deep poo-poo.........my 2 cents worth, but yeah, I'd for start looking for a new mechanic.

What I would want to know is this: Does the new flex plate spin true when running? If not, it could have been dicked up on the install whether it was bent or dowel pin missing out of tranny bellhousing.

I am not sure about the autozone flexplate how its made or its quality so no comment there on that or the converter.

Hopefully, overnight someone can offer another opinion or even a person to take it to near you. If I think of another idea, I will get with you.

The only other thing I have ever seen is the starter not fully engaging on some aftermarkets but you were having the issue with the Ford starter you stated.
