"WHO" ain't workin...???

Normally my voltmeter sits on 14 after a minute or so subsequent to first being started. For the last two days it has slowly dropped down to about 11.5 volts while running. I made an 80 mile round trip today and it stayed on 11.5 the whole time. I really hadn't noticed until the return trip home in the PM. I just measured the voltage across the battery terminals and it showed 12.0 volts. So , i'm in a quandary as to what is the most likely part that is malfunctioning.........battery , alternator , or regulator. Comments please!!!!!fd

Alternator isn't charging. Could be the regulator, alternator or wiring. Maybe just the field wire to the alternator is loose.

mac , you're right on the money!! I checked napa's webb site and they listed about 10 diferent alternators that were supposed to fit my 77, f250 , 400. So i had friend pickup the 100 amper. when he took it out of the box it was TOO big. so we went back into town and had to buy the 45 amp, standard model. I wanted\needed a bigger model but no luck. Anyway I've got transportation now so I'm happy.....thanks for the response.....fd

For mac and Hawk.........My new, 100 amp alternator from Napa was the wrong size. Took it back and picked up a standard 61 amp alt. It would only put out 12 volts. Took it back , they tested and still put out 12 volts. So, they tell me ...we ain't got no mo 61 ampers. So, I tells 'um ...go get me a 61 amper for a 75 Mustang 2. comes back , it's the same damn thing cept its got a double vbelt pulley. The guy asks me how the hell Did i know about this and i told HIM i talk to a guy named hawkrod and he knows Everything bout deem damned old fords. Thanks Hawk, I got 14 volts on the gauge now and everything works.......fd
