ON MY '98 EXPO THE VACUUM LINE CONNECTOR AND 6 INCHES OF attached VAC LINEs ( WHICH IS LOCATEd NEAR THE BATTERY AND CONTROLS THE HEAT/AC OPERATION ) DISINTEGRATED IN MY HAND. where can I FIND A DIAGRAM WHiCH OUTLINES the proper hookup and routing of these lines. My ac works great out of the defrost and Check engine lite is on
1st the check engine light is on prob. due to the open vac lines.Check with local dealer for schematic they are good most of the time to allow information,if not you might try local library get the lines repaired then go to local auto store have them put code reader on its free don't buy anything at this time but have them clear codes. Now monitor for check engine light good luck.
You might try checking the local bone yards and take some pics of the layout and/or buy the parts there. It would be faster and cheaper than going to Ford.
I think this issue started right before my ball joint popped. The Battery light was blinking randomly w/ the air on but it was just A/C in the cold air option, which it shouldn't have done. Went to clear my windshield and now all I have is defrost as a direction. Once I fix the ball joint issue, I'll tackle this next. Any info you find would be appreciated here.

A loss of vacuum to the HVAC system results in the airflow going to defrost. Since you're having battery issues and since the HVAC vacuum line runs under the back side of the battery, then it's possible that as the battery went bad it leaked corrosion down onto the vacuum line for the HVAC system. Just a thought.
Alloro, I'll have to check that, the batt and a new alt I put in Nov of 11', just been dealing with the front diff and ball joints at present. I was thinking, the times the batt light blinked, was when the AC compressor was on, even though I only had cold air on, and not directed to AC, which was the 1st warning sign. Could the condensation from the compressor have dripped and caused a short?
Ahh, duh I didn't think of that I replaced the belt at the same time as the alt and the batt. And the tension was pretty good then. I'll dbl check that once I get a chance. Prob won't be for a week at least. Pulling the control arms 2mrw or 2day depending on your time zone, and then dropping the front diff. Trucks too high off the ground to open the hood and see anything.

You can access it from underneath if your curiosity level is at Defcon 1, or just in case you have to order a tensioner. Otherwise it's not hurting anything if you wait. A man's got to have his priorities!
