cam sensor
cam sensor
I have a 99' F-250 7.3L with 105K miles on it. Today while driving on th x-way it sudenly shut off! I checked the fuel and drained the water seperator and started it again. Went ab out a half mile and it killed again at 55 mph. I got off and nursed it home ( coasting when it felt like it would die). Called the local dealer and they said it was a cam sensor. Can anyone tell me where it's at and does this sound right?
cam sensor
It does sound like a bad cam sensor.
It's located in the front of the block to the right (passenger side) of the water pump. A 10mm socket, flat head screwdriver, and about 10 minutes out of your day are all that are required to replace it. Also, your local international dealer carries it for quite a bit less money than ford.

It is in the front cover and has the timing indicator attached to it. Get one from your local International dealer instead of Ford. It is the same sensor for about half the price.
