nahh, i didn't, i need my truck to go to school, im a senior in high school and play football, so not having a vehicle is an inconvenience, so im just really hoping for the best!!
And one of my favorite quotes rears it's ugly head. "If you can't afford to do it right, can you afford to do it twice?" I feel for ya not having a ride, but surely you have friends with vehicles?.. My coach had no problem giving me a ride home after practice when I had my truck all tore apart when I was installing a lift-kit.
well honestly it isnt the money, its the time, im trying to get it on the roadd, but honestly i am thinking that its going to work out *Knock on wood* the oil pressure is extremely good so its tight and strong, only problem that poked its ugly little head up was the head gasket and i think i got that fixed, gues only time will tell!
I really do hope the best for you. I just got done putting a 429 in my 74 highboy. I bought an engine overhaul gasket set and used 80-90% of the gaskets in the kit, just to freshen my engine up. I pulled a couple of main caps and the bearings looked like new. I also pulled the timing cover, and discovered that someone else had put in a double-roller and it had very little play, so it was reused. It really is worth the effort to go through these things while you have the opportunity, even if that means not being able to drive the truck for a couple more days. Or even a week.
yeahh i know what you mean, im sure ill be kicking my selff in the **** in a few weeks for not doing that but hey, you live and you learn! but honestly i think im going to try to find some heads on craigslist anyways, so no real reason to work on these, the d2ve heads i hear arent very good anyways
I can't really get into that much.. I don't know squat about heads. All I can tell you is what I read, but I don't believe everything I read. I'm sure for a daily driver the heads you have would work fine, but for a performance application they would leave something to be desired. Again, I don't know squat about them. I got lucky with my 429, as it happened to be a 1968 model. The C8 heads are supposed to be pretty decent (from what I read )
yeahhh i have "read" that too, but good news! bought some head gasket repair and there is no water in the oill!!! woohoo, so far so good, ill get a vid uploaded tomorrow of the ol girl, the duals sound good even though it's a bit ghetto
I'm glad it worked out for you. I am looking forward to your video, I still have to get exhaust on my highboy.
thankss andd i gott a question, i got another 2 bbl holley, sittin in the barn, should i buy a dual 2 bbl intake, or buy a 4bbl? which would be more *FUNN?
well i was looking on summit and i dont even see a dual 2bbl option, only dual 4bbl, should i just buy the dual 4bbl and put adapters on? or do they make a dual 2bbl?

Buy a good dual plane 4bbl manifold and a good 4bbl.
No one makes a dual 2bbl manifold for a V8. You have to use adapters on a dual 4bbl manifold.

Why work on the heads if its running fine? This is an engine you dont know much about obviously so theres no use in working on the top end if you arent going to work on the bottom end. You could spend several hundred on the heads or more only to have the bottom end let go. If its running ok just drive it until you can do it right.
x2 on this suggestion. A 750cfm 4bbl will really wake that motor up. Right now I have a 600cfm Holley (my preference) on my 429 until I can get the 750cfm I have rebuilt... Going to see how the 600 does first.
alrightt well if i got a buddy that will sell me a 750 holley, he said all id need to do is rebuild it because it's been sitting up, how well will a rebuilt carb run, i fi just buy a rebuild kit from o'reillys?
I found kits online as cheaply as $18. My local O'reilly's sells them for around $30-$40. Rebuilt 750cfm carbs are running around $150-$200 here. I picked one up from ebay for $59 + shipping. Needs rebuilt. A rebuilt carb will run like a new carb, assuming everything is in good, working order. Check the throttle-plates and shafts for side-play, as well as general function. Make sure it's not corroded badly inside, or missing any pieces.
