So I purchased this 05 excursion with 6.0 in July. When I went to test drive it at the dealship, The batteries were dead. We had to jump start it. So I figured ok they probably fried the FICM. They took it back to the shop and put a new alternator on it. The batteries seem to be holding a charge. As soon as I got home I took the batteries to Auto zone and had them tested. They told me they were fine but I am not so sure they load tested them correctly. So I took them to another auto zone and a guy came out with a hand held just like the other store and seemed to run a test but still did not seem to load test. They used to put them in the store and run an actual load on it. I guess those handhelds are capable. But anyways. 2 different auto zones telling me they are ok. So When the truck is cold. It takes maybe 5 to 7 seconds to crank. No smoke at all. When I start going down the road I feel a bit of a miss. After it warms up the miss goes away and the truck fires right up. Only happens 1st time I crank it for that day. Well today I tested the FCIM and it was reading 48.6 volts with 2 buzz tests and did not budge while running. So I guess the FCIM is good. I have been running Power service addititave since I got the truck. I also am running Rotella T6. With factory filters. I did the blue spring upgrade already too. I did notice after a long trip "3hrs" Then the cold start is not there. My guess is maybe the battiers are fully charged then? So could it be an underperforming alternator? weak batteries? Stiction? Any suggestions comments? Thanks
I'm pretty sure the guys will say get a scanguage so you can monitor some things when you go to start the truck. I had the long crank issue and it got worse and wouldn't start when hot. It was a high pressure oil leak at the dummy plug in the oil rail.If you post some numbers(icp/ipr),the guys will point you in the right direction.
I do not have any means to monitor my stuff at the moment. I was thinking about getting the Torque app for my phone and using the blue tooth usb. I should probably get on that soon. Thanks
