79 Bronco project...maybe.

I'm eyeballing a 79 Bronco near by. Original 351M is gone. C6 & NP205 transfer case are still in the truck. I used to own a 351M in a pickup and I'm not crazy about the thought of putting 351M/400M back in. I really like small block fords and straight 6's. But I'm hearing different info about getting 302's or 300's to bolt up to the C6.
So, is it possible? Is it worth the hassle? If it takes a tranny change, what does that mean for matching up with the NP205?
I know this is probably alot of dumb questions. Thanks for your time.

i'm kind of partial to the 400's and if your going to have to install it anyway you could wake it up a bit before you drop it in. if you do decide to swap to a "small block" you will have to do motor mounts and transmission also. i have had 351w and 390 both with c6's, so finding one and matching it to the 205 shouldn't be an issue. i wouldn't go smaller than a 351w in a 79 though. that truck is around 6000lbs and i just don't think you will have the power without some gearing changes.

Though the I6 has a lot of torque, i agree with udsuth78, there just wouldn't be the power. It would dog when you put your foot into it. A Windsor motor wouldn't be bad, but in my own opinion i would stick with the modified or maybe go with a 460. Yeah they suck gas like no other but the power will be there for you when you need it.

The 300 can handle it. I just won't use a 302 though. BUT the 351M C6 is shaped for a big block engine.

The 351m/400m are not really big blocks. They just take the pattern and shape of a 460.

To use a 351W, 300, 302, you will need a smaller c6. The NP205 should still fit on any one.
