New to FTE, but from what I've read I'm very impressed.
My 03 250 with 7500 miles has a whistle coming from the drivers side mirror (towing, heated). It's only audible with the windows down, above 30 mph. The whistling goes away if you fold in the mirror against the door. But doesn't change if you extend or retract the mirror for towing.
Took it to the dealer thinking it was a bearing or something more serious. Dealer replaced the mirror but there's been no improvement.
Cover the four openings for the extending arms with some tape to see if the openings are the culprit. If yes, then a carefull bead of clear silicone caulk recesed into the opening should change the air flow enough to kill the whistle.
Use common sense here and don't glue, with the caulk, any of the moving/rotating parts.
You can use the tape to temporarily redirect the air on different parts of the mirror to see where the whistle is, but I bet it is the openings on the mirror plastic cover where the two extending arms go into the mirror housing.
Goog luck, took me a few trys to chase it down. I only did the silicon caulk on the front half of the top tube opening.
Stick around, we always need new blood and you will be amazed at the crap you can learn here, plus there will be plenty of opurtunities for you to add your own wisdom
