your signature(bottom lines) says you have a 400 big block
why do have a chebbie engine in a ford?
since ford never made a **big block** you must of put a chebbie
engine in
or you just mis-spoke and clasified a 335 series(FORD) as a big
block(CHEBBIE)
IT CAN'T BE FORD TOUGH WITH CHEVY STUFF
Pardon the he** out of me ,I was under the impression that a FORD 400 engine was a big block...
Originally posted by mattsbox99 I think we have argued on the Big Block and Small Block thing before Battered bronco. Its easier than explaining what a 335/385 is to some ignorant chevy people. Since there are only three patterns prior to 1986 its easier to say Big block or big block FE. And yes it is very exhilirating to go 174MPH.
289,302,351W,I forget this engine family off the top of my head
351m,400,351c-335 engine family
352,390,460,427,8,9 385 engine family
Why put anything out of a 351W,302,289 on a 351M,C,400.Yes some parts will fit ,BUT,not without expensive machine work.BTW,289,302,351W are all small blocks.I have read volumes on FORD engines, and nowhere have I seen the 351C,351M,400 called a small block.I thought the 4.00 stroke classified these as big blocks...
as far as bolt patterns go the 335 and 385 families share the same bellhousing pattern the FE's and windsors each have their own. I don't know what the diesel engines have.
ok we will say 400"big block ford" ((for now)
if its a big block why can you bolt "small block ford"(winsor) heads on it with the right intake/intake spacer and plugs and new water passages
so what is it now a medium block?????
like a said before (and sure it will be my dying word)
DO NOT CALL MY TRUCK A CHEBBIE!
i apoligize for starting this again but it pizzez me off like a 5.0 ho with big wheels and not allowing myself to pull/canabilize on another ford (as much as the new ones are real ford trucks)
Call it whatever you want. To me its a 335. To others its a Ford Big Block. To some its a POS. I don't like those people though. I always say that I have a 400 or whatever engine I am talking about. Nobody here every called its a chevy or said the the phrase Big Block was owned or created by the general.
Wow you are like the tenth person to ask me that. I had it custom made by a friend that is a CNC specialist. He also made me a ton of custom gears for a Dana 60, one of them is 12:1.
Ive been reading, and this is the problem I face when searching for parts from private owners. The majority say that ford never made a 400 only a modified.Hmm. Some say 400's are 351C's that are stroked. Close. But as you can see, even if they advertise an engine for sale, who knows what they have. The amount of knowledge you all have, I would have to say that the engine number will do.
Momudder---
There is a little more hardware in a Dana 60 for the posi lock function and limited slip. He refabbed the hardware and ratios, I haven't tried this one yet, I need to find a donor axle. I am sure you can't get above 20MPH with it though.
