So now Im getting ripped. Why do you assume I work for him or am related to him? I am looking for information just like anyone else on the internet. I assume you had 1 post at one time then 2 then 3. I am flying to Denver from North Idaho to purchase my first diesel ....
When and where? Private owner or dealer. Depending on where it's at, I can check it out before you make the trip just in case there is something the current owner is trying ot hide. That is if you haven't already had that done.
Most of us make some major mistakes and are pulled up short for it..... we are just not on u-tube to show it to 'the world'. Over and over and over again
HA! Anyway thanks for the input I just was wondering why someone who sounds like is generally trying to help gets beat up. He had a real informative clip I thought on buying a used powerstroke so anyway, I have already learned alot from his website and this one as well especially the tuners, so thanks alot.[/quote]
Good luck with your new to you diesel. You will love it.Do not hesitate to post here for help or ideas.
To the OP: If you need visualizations I have quite a collection of videos just like bills that is ever growing. However mine are all from things I have learned HERE. I credit all of my knowledge to FTE and it common for me to have a page open for reference while producing a video. My videos are FTE approved, and most importantly, I admit when I am wrong and change it. I am not perfect and I am here to learn just as much as the next guy, but I too liked the idea of having a visual presentation and I filled a gap.
Trey, your videos are very informative with regards to Powerstrokes, but unfortunately the viewer does not learn the first thing about how volcanoes work.

I am flying to Denver from North Idaho to purchase my first diesel and like everyone who gets thier first diesel there is a large learning curve. Ive always worked on my own vehicles so Im a little intimidated by diesels right now. Im not even sure why I am doing this, I have a excellent running 1995 460 Ford with 218,000 miles that was rebuilt at 165,000 and I put in a new clutch and pressure plate at 185,000 and the typical brakes rotors and ball joints but it has been really good mechanically for me. So why does a guy that has something paid for do this? I dont know, to go 60 up a hill instead of 45 I guess. Get 13-14 mpg hopefully instead of 7-8. I do nothing with my pickup but pull so that is one of the reasons and the other reason is I got a 2001 F250 with 177K for 8000 which I thought was pretty reasonable until Im sitting in the middle of Wyoming waiting for the tow truck. So, thats the long answer so I kinda wanted to know what spare parts I should have on my way home. HA! Steve, I didn't assume anything. I just asked a few questions. If you have been on this forum looking, you would know we get people that come on here with different user names and ask these kind of questions. Look at the thread like this one in the 6.0 forum. Makes us wonder some times, is all.
No prob, Pard. and thanks everyone for your input. Billy bob, very kind gesture I appriciate that but I went by the merits of the engine, clean carfax and the reputation of the dealer and lots of pics and video so I HOPE that is enough, if not you all will be hearing from me ALOT. I have relatives I am visiting while I am down there anyway so if some red flags pop up I'll walk. Had a good visit, back on the plane no big deal, Find another one. 100 bucks southwest. Can I realistically get 17-18 mpg in a stock rig staying at 2000 rpms all freeway in a 6 speed manual on the way home?

Its definitely not out of the question. Possibly higher. My CrewCab lifted 4x4 automatic will get 18 on the freeway if the conditions are right and my foot isnt too heavy.
Thanks Trey, Im looking forward to having at look at your videos. While we are here Im of course doing 3 things. MBRP exhaust the 6637 filter and the dp tunes. From what I have gathered all that I really NEED for gauges is the Pyrometer for 6 speed transmission? Fuel pressure maybe, how important is that preventative wise when that drops off your already screwed are you not? I guess it narrows it down to fuel? Whats everyone think?

Fuel pressure gauges are better for long term diagnostics. If your pressure is 10psi lower than it was 2 months ago, you have a problem. Its not common to see it jump down 10 PSI over a few minutes. But still a great gauge. With the 6 speed you dont need trans temp, but PYRO is still needed as you said, and boost is always fun and can be used for diagnostics too.
Ok, answers that I will get the fuel pressure. Now, why the Dp tune removal? Makes me wonder if I should get one. Now Powerstroke.com Bill says the chips eventually throw codes because you are fooling the computer and that the Programmers are a better setup because of this but then I seen him later installing a F5 chip which may or may not have been his rig but anyway, Whats your take?

The DP Tuner F5 and F6 as well as the TS Chip are all a solid option. I have run both the DP F5 and a TS Chip with PHP tunes. Both have their pros and cons.
As far as throwing codes, he was probably referring to over boost codes, which both DP and PHP solve in their tuning and wont throw a code. I have never thrown a code with either chip.
I changed to PHP because of a few scares with the DP some people were having, but its nothing to be concerned with. Both companies are great, it came down to nitpicking.
My favorite line from Bill is: "it's not Christmas unless you get a gift wrapped in duct tape" I always found him entertaining but came to FTE for most of my info.

Just another reason why we think he's an idiot that gets SOME things right.
Programmers work well for the 6.0L PSD's. But the chips with custom tunes work well with the 7.3's.
