I guess its because I am new but I can't pm anyone yet. I am trying to contact John niolon about how he mounted his fairlane front end. If anyone could pass on my email to him I would appreciate it, thanks. Tom.reese1978@gmail.com
i tried to email you at the .rr.com or whatever was on your homepage about your 53. i have a fairlane front end that i got with a truck i bought four years ago. it still has the frame cutouts and the piece connecting the back of the fenders. i am about to install my mustang II this week and i would like to get the front end mounted after that. i really appreciate your info on your webpage. i think i am going to steal your flip mech..looks good. i had a question about the front bumper. i want to cutout the inserts and use a front bumper. it looks like on yours that the front horns would hit the fiberglass when the front end was opened all the way.
look for an email... the fiberglass 'rolls' around my frame horns but they have been shortened 8" (I think) since I'm running no bumper. feel free to use my flip thing... there's more detail on it in the article... YMMV. If you have any other questions, let me know...
BTW we have finally gotten my flip fitting reasonable well... with a brace across it just north of the firewall... the fender cuts are filled in and look 'purdy' I'll probably remount the flip this p.m. and check final fit, then remove it to start finishing the inside... I want it as slick as the outside and that is gonna require lots of work since it's just rough fiberglass.. plenty of filler and sore fingers from sanding... I'll update the article when I have time
Tom,
do you want the bumper for protection or just for show? if its just for show could you do something nifty and have the bumber and frame horn stubs flip forward with the whole front end? If you want it for protection then it might be a bit more difficult
I want it for looks but I also don't want it to crush the fiberglass during a fender bender. I like johns approach but he didn't use a bumper. I am going to have to think about this.
