I'm posting this question for my brother who has a '97 Extended Cab F150 2WD auto with manual crank windows. The X-bars that raise and lower the window twist and bind about half way up. Has anyone had this problem and solved it?
There are guide channels front and rear for the glass to follow down into the door as you lower the window. The rear lower channels fastener bolt can come loose or the channel can separate from the upper door channel and cause glass binding when rolling up. The channels felt strip can also drop down and cause problems. If any channel fasteners are loose/broke the glass can also skip out of the channel and cause binding. There are nylon wheels on the x-frame that may need to be cleaned and re-lubed.
My own truck I bought used, the drivers window would momentarily bind half way up with power windows. I removed the door panel and found someone had been in there for whatever reason. They had removed the rear channel and when reinstalling it they missed the sliding glide clip at the top of the channel. The channel still fastened but left the guides joint off center. Repositioning it correctly solved the binding.
